Her Strength — Acrylic Painting by Selena Angeles

She carries her sister like she was born for it — because she was. Selena Angeles painted this powerful moment of devotion in vivid color, honoring the fierce love that holds a family together. A one-of-a-kind acrylic on unframed canvas.

The inspiration. Shown in the last photo: "La Leyenda de los Volcanes" by Jesús Helguera — the beloved Mexican painting of Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl. Selena studied it, loved it, and answered it in her own hand. Shown side by side, you can see how closely she honored it — and where her own heart took it. Inspiration is how art has always been made: one artist's spark, carried forward by another's hand.

All artists are inspired by something, and often by someone. Portrait painters are inspired by a beautiful human figure; landscape artists look at a scene and draw it — and sometimes a painting itself becomes the scene a new artist cannot look away from.

Inspired by the work of Jesús Helguera.
