Cool silver barrels, one after another, bent into a ring — these barrel link hoop earrings take a chain maker’s link and close it into a circle for the ear: every hoop is a loop of short, rounded segments with a bright rhodium shine, throwing back cool white light in little flashes whenever your head moves.
The pair was made in Italy’s Veneto region, home of Chrysos S.p.A., the house behind the DESMOS name. There, a barrel link starts life as sterling silver wire, cut short, fattened at its center, and locked to the links on either side; the finished run is coaxed into the hoop’s round and given its rhodium skin last. Mohammed, who represents DESMOS to our studio, carried this pair across with the rest of the Italian order, and what he showed us first was the joinery — segment after segment sitting even, with no proud edge to catch on hair or cloth.
Hold the pair against its neighbors in the tray and the barrel shape reads at once. Paperclip links stretch out long and lean. Figaro alternates three small links with one stretched one. Mariner ovals carry a bar straight across the waist, and box links meet in flat, squared faces. The barrel run does something else entirely: its segments swell outward, shoulder against shoulder, the whole way around the hoop, so the ear wears one continuous, softly ridged band of silver.
A hoop earns its place by what it does to a face: it draws a clean circle beside the cheek and leaves the rest uncluttered. Worn, this pair sits bright and cool against the skin, swinging a fraction as you walk, glinting when lamplight or daylight crosses the ridged links — right with a white shirt, right with a black dress, right with the worn-in denim you reach for most days. The silver tone stays icy rather than yellow, and the pair finishes an outfit by itself, asking for no help from a necklace.
Here is the piece on paper: .925 sterling silver finished in rhodium, made in Italy by DESMOS. The listing covers a single pair — two matched hoops, and every hoop is one unbroken circle of barrel links. Its record holds no diameter for the hoops and no weight for the pair, so this page prints neither figure.
Rhodium asks for the same gentleness as any fine finish: give the hoops a wipe with a soft, dry cloth when they come off, let them rest somewhere dry, and store them away from perfume, lotion, and bathroom steam. And the straight word about what rhodium is: a precious skin laid over the sterling silver beneath — the bright white face of these hoops is that finish, not silver polished to a glare — so spare the pair from gritty pads, rough surfaces, and hard blows, and the little barrels will stay smooth and bright.
