Weave Necklace in Two-Tone Sterling Silver with 18K Gold Plate | DESMOS

Some chains link, and some are woven — this weave necklace — the Interlace — is built the second way, row upon row of tiny gold and silver links laced over and under each other until the whole piece moves like cloth, a flat band of two metals that pours through your fingers and settles at the collar in one shining fall.

It comes to us from DESMOS of Italy, from the Veneto workshops of Chrysos S.p.A., a house that has built its name on chain and chain alone. There the weavers pass each small link through its neighbors in a set rhythm, row after row, easing the band flat as they go so no edge lifts and no row twists out of line. Our rep Mohammed carries the line to us himself, and we chose this weave for the studio because a band that behaves like fabric sits beautifully on everything from a clean tee to an open collar.

Set it beside the other chains in the case and the construction tells the story. A figaro is a counted rhythm of long and short links. A paperclip is a line of open ovals. A curb chain twists single links until they lie flat. The Interlace is none of those — it is hundreds of small links interlaced in rows, gold beside silver beside gold, so the surface reads as woven metal rather than a chain of separate parts.

Worn, it lies smooth and flat against the chest, cool at first touch and then warm, the two tones alternating in fine rows so the band seems to ripple when you move. It carries a neckline by itself, layers with a longer pendant without tangling, and answers the gold-or-silver question by being both at once.

The facts of the piece, straight: .925 sterling silver with 18K gold plate, made in Italy by DESMOS — the warm rows are the 18K gold plate, the bright rows are the sterling itself, interlaced into one flat woven band. The band measures 12 inches — collar length — and weighs 24 grams. The band closes with a smooth cylindrical clasp in the gold tone, worked into the weave so the line of the piece never breaks.

Looking after it asks very little: wipe the band down with a soft, dry cloth after wearing, and store it dry and flat, clear of perfume, hair spray, and damp air.
